Description

Engineering Design is the art and science of creating innovative solutions that satisfy our economic, environmental and societal goals. The technical and organizational designs we develop will literally shape our future. As a Design engineer, you will learn how to approach the most complex problems in a structured manner, design for people and society, and gain knowledge on incorporating cutting-edge technology. You will be part of innovation projects that develop products, services and systems. The study programme provides you with the proper tools and methods for meeting the challenge of combining structured problem solving, user engagement and technical disciplines in a range of innovation projects.Design and Innovation equips you with the competencies required for carrying out engineering and organizational development design tasks. Therefore, the MSc Eng programme builds on both design science as well as technical disciplines. It is characterised by an academic competency that combines the following aspects:
  • Structured problem-solving processes that develop your creative synthesis competence and consider social, technical, environmental and economic aspects.
  • A people-centric understanding of the design process, allowing you to understand and integrate users and other stakeholders in your design process.
  • A reflective technical-scientific competence, qualifying you to participate in and lead engineering design activities.
The study programme aims to develop your creative skills and abilities to analyse the interaction between the user, technology, organization and environment. You will gain knowledge of one or more technical domains, learn to develop and communicate problem and solution concepts, and implement innovation processes in private and public organizations. One of the most distinguishing features of the Design and Innovation programme is the long-standing tradition of project work and using different teaching methods. The programme is taught by lecturers from DTU Civil & Mechanical EngineeringDTU EntrepreneurshipDTU ComputeDTU ElektroDTU Sustain and other departments and centers. By drawing on expertise from across the university, all core areas of the study programme, design methods, system and product design, material technology, innovation management, digital innovation and sustainability are covered. You will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies - either as part of the courses, as an individual project or while writing your thesis. The MSc Eng is a two-year graduate programme with a workload of 120 ECTS credit points.

DTU Lyngby Campus

Description

DTU’s main campus consists of more than 100 buildings on a 106-hectare plain, which is divided into four quadrants—just like points in a coordinate system. The campus is safe and secure, and a site of great natural beauty with wooded areas, sports fields, inner courtyards, and gardens.

The campus is located within the Greater Copenhagen Area and is easily accessed by car or public transport. You can get from DTU to Copenhagen Center in about 40 minutes by bus or trian, 45 minutes by bike and 20 minutes by car.

Most of the DTU main campus was build in the 1960s and 1970s, but new and modern facilities have been build continuously. DTU is currently investing more than 500,000,000 EUR in a comprehensive transformation of the university buildings and infrastructure, which is aimed at providing world-class research and student facilities.
