When you study Energy Engineering, you can choose the specialisation Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering (EPSH).

In the future, it is expected that the electrical energy production area and the network grid structure will change. More dispersed renewable generation units, such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, biomass systems and small wind turbines will be connected to the grid at the distribution level where also new loads will give interactions to the transport, thermal and gas sectors via electrical vehicles, heat pumps, electrolysers etc.

Further, there is an increasing focus on the connection of large offshore wind farms, reinforcement of the transmission grid and on more HVDC connections at the transmission level. This may offer potential financial, environmental and technical benefits, but it also presents a great number of challenges and uncertainties.

With a Master's Degree in 
Electric Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering, you would be able to answer questions like:

  • Should the entire high voltage network be laid in cables? How should this be done?
  • How would the future distribution network be, including decentralised supply units? What control strategy would be required?
  • Should the customer pay time-dependent prices to encourage adjustment of consumption patterns?
  • Should the distribution network be able to run independently in the future (disconnected from the transmission network)?
  • How do we control the balance between production and consumption in a future network supplied by sustainable energy sources with fluctuating production and consumption?

Electrical Energy engineers have a wide range of job opportunities. The gained knowledge enables the MSc graduates to work in project engineering, research, development and management in Danish and international industries or public institutions.

  • Electrical transmission and distribution companies such as Vattenfall, DongEnergy,, Seas-NVE and Himmerlands Elforsyning
  • Wind industry such as Vestas and Siemens Wind Power
  • Power industry such as ABB and Siemens

Admission to the MSc programme specialisation in Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering presupposes a BSc degree in Electrical Energy Engineering, Power Systems or similar. 

In addition, documentation will be required to verify that your proficiency in English is at an acceptable level.
