Denmark in top 13 of 100 most innovative universities in Europe 2017

Reuters’ 2017 ranking of the strongest institutions for advancing science and inventing new technologies puts University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark in 13th and 14th place

This year KU LeuvenImperial College London and the University of Cambridge have topped a farily new ranking of Europe’s most innovative universities. However, the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark are not far behind at 13th and 14th place respectively. Compared to 2016 the universities fall two spots from 11th and 12th place last year.

Reuters’ second annual ranking of Europe’s Most Innovative Universities lists The Belgian institution on top for the second year due to producing a high volume of influential inventions.

The Technical University of Munich comes in at number four.

Both Universite Libre of Brussels and the University of Leeds has dropped 17 places, making them the universities with most negative changes on the list.

Germany weighs in with the country most-represented on the list, taking 23 of the top 100 places fiercely followed by the UK and France which joins a second place when it comes to quantity of innovative institutions, each claiming 17 places in the table.

The methodology for the ranking is based on multiple indicators including patent filings and research paper citations. It sets up to determine which institutions does most to advance science, invent new technologies and help drive the global economy. The methodology takes into account a country’s population and GDP per capital, which puts countries big or smaller on equal footing.

With three institutions on the list with a population of less than 5 million people, the Republic of Ireland boasts more top 100 innovative universities per head than any other country in Europe.
