CORE COMPETENCIES

Through the Bachelor’s degree programme in Data Science, you will develop a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, programming and machine learning. The first year covers fundamentals in the above subjects, whereas the second year covers machine learning, statistical modelling, databases and optimization techniques. The year ends with a case-based project course where you will be in contact with a research group at the university. The third year allows for a number of electives, where you can broaden your knowledge in a subject of your interest or learn about areas where data science is used. The year concludes with a Bachelor’s project - typically centered around the use of data science methods for solving a real-world challenge.

STUDENT LIFE

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Data Science is primarily based at the Department of Mathematics. The Department has its own canteen, library, and study areas available for students to use. Data Science has its own student organisation, Datavenskab, and the department also has a number of student organisations, such as Euler’s Friends (Eulers Venner) and the Kalkulerbar (Friday bar), that organise lectures on current maths topics, study excursions and social functions.

CAREER

A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science will typically be followed by a Master’s degree in Data Science. A Master’s degree in Data Science provides job opportunities in many different companies and organisations. The common denominator is the need to create data-driven solutions in these companies and organisations, for example in the financial sector, wind turbine industry, consultancy firms, pharmaceutical companies, the telecommunications industry, the food industry, the healthcare sector etc. You may also choose to apply for admission to the PhD programme and pursue a career in research.
