At the NAFSA 2018 Annual Conf...

At the NAFSA 2018 Annual Conference & Expo, join us to explore the theme: Diverse Voices, Shared Commitment. Successful international engagement depends on navigating complexity by listening to multiple perspectives. It is one thing to study and/or appreciate the “other”, it is another to genuinely hear their voices – voices that we may not have heard before but are important to moving our field forward.

Valuing the power of diverse voices leads to more authentic collaboration and speaks to alternative narratives that challenge

our old ideas and make us think about new solutions and opportunities. Diverse voices have the power to wake us up, perhaps make us uncomfortable, and ask the right questions. But multiple voices without a shared commitment is cacophony—it lacks the power of collaboration, mutual trust and a desire to meet challenges together.

The NAFSA Annual Conference is a unique forum of attendees from many professional and geographic perspectives and backgrounds. Despite differences, conference attendees share a very strong commitment to the core values of International Education -- providing a welcoming and supportive environment for the success of generations of students and scholars.

In 2018, we will embrace diverse voices and celebrate our shared commitment.

The conference comprises hundreds of posters, sessions, workshops, networking opportunities, and a world-class expo hall. The 2018 Annual Conference Committee (ACC) is seeking proposals that reflect the best thinking in the field. In 2018, we are redoubling efforts to lift up diverse voices on the conference program.

The committee invites proposals that highlight:

    • Comparative perspectives across national boundaries.
    • Content that represents voices in the field not often heard from but important to the advancement of international education.
    • Managing and balancing the work portfolio in times of change around student enrollments, demographics, governmental policy, etc.
    • The employability of students through innovative curriculum, career development programs, co-curricular experiences, etc.
    • Global operations such as navigating legalities around research, international payments, working with NGOs, and/or insurance.
    • Case Studies on ethical challenges in International Education.
    • Creative uses of technology and how it facilitates learning and connections.
    • Economic and political impacts – both U.S. and abroad - on student mobility.
    • Innovative programs to support student and scholar wellness and welfare.

The overall program will result in a diverse array of presenters and perspectives, including those with different nationalities, different levels of experience, and different institutional and organizational types.

Mark your calendars for the 3...

In today's changing and uncertain political landscape, Geneva makes for the ideal host of the 30th Annual EAIE Conference. Situated in a peaceful, neutralist country that has built strong ties with its neighbouring states without ever compromising its own position, Geneva has an extended history as a home for international diplomacy and collaboration. From the former League of Nations to the United Nations today, there are few places more suited for debating issues of global concern. This year’s theme invites us to face outward into the world, join forces with those who share our vision and engage with those who may have differing view. Way beyond the Palace of Nations, the city’s mountainous landscape reminds us to continue to aim for a brighter future.
