Description
The Master’s program in Information Studies at Aalborg University focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of IT systems with a particular emphasis on the relations and interactions between people and IT systems. The degree in Information Studies provides students with skills and competencies sought by the IT industry, and which are applicable wherever people and IT meet and interact.Information Studies is concerned with the design, development, and evaluation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in any context where people are involved. ICT systems play an increasingly important role in modern society across all technology-driven sectors, such as business, health, entertainment, learning, government, and beyond.
At its core, the teaching in the Information Studies programme focuses on users, information and systems. In particular, most of the teaching is built up around one of the three core areas of information behavior, human-computer interaction, and information systems. Throughout the programme, students will learn about theories and methods from the different research areas displayed in the outer ring, such as information architecture, systems design, user research, and behavioral analysis.
Career Opportunities
Researching, designing and developing ICT systems is one of the big challenges of the 21st century, where information is increasingly digitized. Access to information therefore requires digital systems, and these are incredibly challenging to design, test and implement due to the massive variety in how humans operate. There is a strong need across all IT sectors for experts capable of handling the complex situations that occur when people need to interact with ICT systems.Typically, IS graduates will be responsible for analyzing how users interact with existing communication and information systems to identify potential problems. This is often combined with designing solutions to these problems in the form of (re-)designing these systems and overseeing their development, deployment and adoption.
