Design for Additive Manufacturing - CANCELLED

Summer School of , 5 ECTS

Institution University of Southern Denmark (SDU)
Campus Odense
Duration 2 weeks
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 1160 EUR
Tuition per term (EU/EAA/CH) 570 EUR

This course introduces methods and techniques for Additive manufacturing in an industrial context. Three main areas will be covered in order to apply additive manufacturing; 1) Technologies within 3D printing, 2) Materials designed for additive manufacturing and 3) Design methods for additive manufacturing. The three areas will be combined into a structured approach for deciding on additive manufacturing applications followed by a design for additive manufacturing process. The obtained knowledge will be applied in a both a strategic decision process followed by an applied “Design for Additive” – process including different 3D print activities.

After the course the student will have the ability to: Design the strategic decision for working with additive manufacturing. Decide upon an additive manufacturing solution based on technology and material consideration. Design and develop components for specific additive manufacturing purposes.

After the course the student will have: Knowledge of the range of 3D print technologies and their application areas. Knowledge of available materials (metal, composite and plastics) for 3D printing. Knowledge of decision parameters for additive manufacturing in and industrial context. Knowledge of applications within the main three domains of 3D printing/additive manufacturing. Knowledge of complementary areas for additive manufacturing through industrial cases.

Mandatory prerequisites: 4th semester in a Bachelor Engineering Programme must be passed. Furthermore, knowledge of basic 3D CAD drawing skills is required (eg, Inventor, Solid Works, AutoCad or the like).

Admission/Tuition: NOTE: Exchange students from a partner university pay no tuition. Guest students pay tuition fees. Please read more:
