Within selected areas students of the programme in Nanomaterials and Nanophysics will acquire knowledge that is based on the highest international research level. Examples of fields covered are solid state physics, optics, semiconductor physics, surfaces and interfaces, properties of materials and components on the nanoscale, polymer and composite materials, and nanoelectronics.

You will be able to use basic scientific methods and tools within the field of physics and materials science, to select appropriate theories, methods and tools to solve practical problems, and to communicate research-based knowledge and discuss professional scientific problems with both peers and non specialists.

Graduates will be able to manage work and development situations that are complex, unpredictable and require new solutions. Furthermore, you can independently initiate and implement discipline-specific and interdisciplinary cooperation and assume professional responsibility.

Career Opportunities  

Nanotechnology operates on the interfaces of traditional scientific areas. It has already contributed substantially to the understanding of interdisciplinary phenomena within science and engineering. Therefore, it is rapidly gaining ground in the traditional engineering areas such as material science, electronics, energy, and technology in general.

With a Master’s degree in 
Nanomaterials and Nanophysics, you can enter any of these engineering fields and contribute with new knowledge and methods as well as look at different ideas from a new perspective, which can help to develop new products.


A relevant Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or materials science is necessary in order to be accepted for enrollment. Each applicant will receive individual assessment by the Study Board in charge of the Nanotechnology education at Aalborg University. It is recommended to have a solid background in physics.

In addition, documentation will be required to verify that your proficiency in English is at an acceptable level.
