Studying for the Master of Science in Technological and Socio-Economic Planning gives you the possibility to study environmental policy and the global challenge in international, regional and local perspectives

If you are eager to understand what environmental issues and the challenges of sustainability are about and to contribute to solving the problems that might arise from them, then this programme has a lot to offer you:

  • a broad overview of the environmental challenges, their development dynamics and the possible policy responses to them,
  • a transdisciplinary study – integrating aspects from both the natural and the social sciences,
  • a combination of a critical analytical tradition with a planning tradition,
  • project organised studies allowing you to design your own specialisation.

This programme will:

  • give you a general overview of environmental problems and develop your specialist knowledge with a specialisation of your own choice,
  • develop your analytical skills to analyse complex problems and design practical and politically feasible strategies which can provide solutions,
  • develop your capability to cooperate, to communicate verbally and in writing, and to work independently and reflexively with complicated problems.

A graduate from TekSam facing the task of solving environmentally related problems has the necessary methods and the disciplinary insight to collect original scientific material and other necessary information and to critically assess and analyse the material. On top of this, the graduate will have the capability to develop solutions, and the skill to communicate the analyses and recommendations.

Job opportunities

The TekSam programme will qualify you for jobs worldwide within the fields of the environment and healthcare in public administration, consultancy companies and private industries. These jobs require a broad understanding of the issues combined with the capability to solve specific problems by finding the relevant knowledge, analysing and communicating it. The analytical skills you develop during the programme are crucial skills for any academic job. In the information age, the problem is not information, but to find relevant information and transform it into useful knowledge about how to handle specific problems.

How do we study

Facilitating the development of these qualifications requires a unique organisation of the study programme. The TekSam programme combines traditional courses and project work undertaken in groups.

Courses are offered to give you insight into and provide an overview of the challenges of environmental and sustainability issues. The courses will introduce you to theories and methodologies in both the natural and social sciences, and also in methodologies in problembased learning, which you will use in your projectwork.

Project work groups improves your reflexive and analytical skills whilst at the same time improving your capabilities to cooperate and communicate with other students and draw upon the experiences and qualifi cations of others.

Transdisciplinarity in courses and project work

A transdisciplinary approach to environmental problems - using knowledge from both the social and natural sciences - is offered to give you the possibility to develop a comprehensive understanding of complex problems as well as a broad approach to designing sustainable solutions to the problems.

Critical analysis and planning

Methodological and analytical tools combined with a wide range of planning tools are offered to develop your capability to understand the social and natural mechanisms creating environmental problems, the barriers and possibilities for solving them, and your capability to design realistic solutions your self.

Tuition

Students from EU countries and EEA countries (Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein) or from a university having an exchange agreement with Roskilde University do not have to pay fee.
