Public Health is an interdisciplinary programme with focus on the population's health status, health and social welfare organisations and functions as well as the prevention and promotion of health issues in the public.
The programme's focus on public health conditions means that the public perspective takes priority over the individual perspective.
You will get a broad understanding of public health science theories and methods and you will learn to work with public health problems in relation to the population's ordinary living conditions.
The programme's various subjects include:
- Methodology subjects like statistics, epidemiology (the study of the presence of disease in different groups), and qualitative methods (for example, interviews and focus group discussions)
- Social science subjects, which includes sociology, psychology, pedagogy, communication, organisation and administration, as well as health economics, where you learn how society prioritises its resources within the health sector
- Health science subjects such as human biology and disease studies
- Humanistic subjects such as ethics and scientific theories
- Social-medical subjects, which include international health, prevention and health promotion, environmental factors and wellness, as well as health service agencies' structure and function
In the BSc programme, you have the opportunity to specialise within one of the two core fields of study:
- Health Promotion
- Health Economics and Management
With the option of adding modules dealing with Global Health.
