Development and International Relations
In this programme you are introduced to international political economy, theories about political change and development as well as globalisation and challenges to third world development.
You will learn about social aide programmes and how to use social scientific methods in connection with e.g. development and culture.

With a starting point in social scientific theories and methods, you learn to analyse issues associated with development work and international relations. You will study, for example, how to develop and improve social aide programmes.
The programme is interdisciplinary, and you learn to use and understand social scientific theories and methods, including those related to development, culture, economics and politics.
Examples of courses are: Culture, Identity, and Politics, International Organisation, and Theories of International Studies.
You will also study these fields:
- International Political Economy (IPE). You will study the various theories and schools of thought within political economics, and learn about the correlation between ideology, economics and politics
- Political Change and Development Theory. You learn about development and underdevelopment in the Third World, and get an overview of the theories, terms and methods within the area of politics and development
- Globalisation and Challenges to Third World Development. You will work across disciplines with different themes within development, including gender or indigenous peoples' rights. You will also go in-depth with theories and practical experience in connection with development
You will be able to do an internship abroad or a study trip at a foreign university.
Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, there is often project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.
Development and International Relations can be studied as a:

You also have the possibility to take single courses or subjects within the programme.
If you choose to complete the master degree programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Master of Science in Sociology (MSc).

Entry Requirements
To be admitted to an MSc programme, you must have a bachelor degree in a relevant subject.
In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

Tuition
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students, unless you are a student from a Nordic or EU country, or from Liechtenstein.
Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.

An academic year is made up of two semesters, which begin around September 1 and February 1.
