Masters - Social Sciences

This is a collection of all the masters within the field of Social Sciences. The masters are all taught in English at one or more Danish Universities.
Advanced Development in Social Work
The Erasmus Mundus programme in Advanced Development in Social Work provides insight into the international dimensions of social work. You learn to analyse and develop social work while taking the effects of globalisation into account, e.g. the free movement of labour and the increase in the number of refugees.
Asian Studies Programme
You will be introduced to subjects related to e.g. International Business Economics and Comparative Social Analysis. You will learn to analyse international economies with focus on East Asia, learn to use practical Japanese or Chinese, and get a fundamental understanding of the social conditions.
Business, Language and Culture
In the programme, you learn both language and economics. You will also study foreign cultures and the problems or challenges that an international corporation may have to face. You learn to analyse, assess and solve tasks in connection with corporate international activities.
Communication
This programme contains the subjects information and media and communication theories. You will work with different media, research methods and solution models. You will learn about e.g. communication in organisations and find out how to coordinate communications and information-based projects.
Corporate Communication
The subject areas are e.g. internal/external coporate communication, media training, strategic management of organisations as well as life styles and trend management. The programme will qualify you to manage a company's communication, public relations or branding.
Cultural Encounters
The subjects areas in this programme are e.g. cultural and language encounters, sociocultural parameters as well as theory, empirical studies and methods. You will learn how to solve problems in conncention with cultural encounters e.g. through understanding of anthropology and sociolinguistics.
Cultural Sociology
The programme combines sociology with cultural analysis and provides insight into the relationship between the individual and society and in handling social and cultural changes and development in organizations, communities and society. You will study the effects of social and cultural changes at individual, group and society level. You will choose between two profiles: Social transformation processes or Law, power and social justice.
Culture, Communication and Globalisation
You will learn about consumption and market communication, organisational culture and management, international migration and ethnic relations and international relations and the global order. The programme qualifies you to work with e.g. project management, communication and cultural exchange awareness in a global context.
Development and International Relations
In this programme you are introduced to international political economy, theories about political change and development as well as globalisation and challenges to third world development. You will learn about social aide programmes and how to use social scientific methods in connection with e.g. development and culture.
Environmental and Resource Management
You will study subjects such as the interaction between the environment and e.g. corporations, corporate social responsibility and global health. In this programme you will learn how to solve conflicts between the environment and society by e.g. economical or technical means.
European Studies (Social Science)
European Studies is an interdisciplinary, English language programme which focuses on European culture, politics and history. You will be taught economic theory, cultural analysis and social science methodology, and you will learn to understand the historical development of European countries and the European Union and why Europe looks the way it does today.
Global Studies (BSc)
This programme contains the subject areas social changes from a global point of view, economic dynamics across borders and social changes. You will get knowledge about global relations and international politics and learn how globalisation has influenced welfare and inequalities.
Global Studies (MSc)
Globalisation has resulted in a growing transfer of goods, information, ideas and people across borders. On the Global Studies programme, you will study globalisation and its influence on politics, economics, society and culture in today's world. You work with subjects such as culture, values, welfare, poverty, inequality, crime - all seen in a global perspective.
Human Security
On the master programme in Human Security you will be provided with academic knowledge of and practical skills in conflict and environmental management in a development context. You will learn how to facilitate the collaboration and mutual learning that are crucial for addressing the structural causes and conditions of conflict.
International Security and Public International Law
The programme on international security and public international law deals with modern conflicts such as the war in Kosovo or the civil war in Somalia. The programme focuses on political science and law where you learn about power, law and ethics.
Land Management (Surveying, Planning and Land Management)
The programme in Land Management covers issues and challenges associated with land tenure, land value, land use and land development. It combines theories and methods from social and political science with property economics and legislation. All teaching is in English. You will acquire knowledge of land management systems and their use in implementing land-related policies and strategies. You will also learn about people’s rights, restrictions and responsibilities in connection with land usage. Graduates of the programme will be qualified to work as surveyors, consultants and project managers for research institutions, consultancy firms, NGOs and the public sector.
Lifelong Learning: Policy and Management
You will gain insight into e.g. policies about further education, the educational systems of the European countries and human resource development in the workplace. The programme is provided by universities in Denmark, England and Spain, and it qualifies you to develop lifelong learning and work out education policies.
Master of Disaster Management
The programme is directed at a wide group of people working within areas related to disaster management both nationally and internationally. You will gain qualifications to work with disaster management and learn e.g. to analyse risks and make contingency plans.
Middle East Studies
You will be introduced to subjects such as history, culture and politics, for example the founding of the Palestinian parliament, and sociology e.g. the conditions of the refugees in Arab refugee camps. The programme also involves lectures, classroom instruction and project work in groups.
Public Health
You will learn about subjects such as methodology, social science and health science. The programme focuses on the health of the population as well as social welfare. Through the different subjects you will gain insight into e.g. public health science theories and learn how to work with public health problems.
