Physics and Nanotechnology

Master (2 years) of Science in Physics and Nanotechnology, 120 ECTS
Engineering Mathematics, natural- and computer science

Institution Technical University of Denmark (DTU)
Campus Lyngby
Duration 2 years
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 7500 EUR

Physics and Nanotechnology is a master’s programme focusing on physics as the basis of modern technology. The gap between scientific research and technological breakthroughs is narrowing, and in fields like nanotechnology there is a growing need for engineers who combine good scientific understanding with state-of-the-art engineering skills.

The programme covers advanced and technologically relevant theoretical and experimental techniques in modern physics.

The applications cover a wide range of topics including the development of nanostructured materials with tailored electrical, magnetic, optical, mechanical and chemical properties; the fabrication and integration of nano- and micro- components in systems design; the modelling of complex biological systems; optical information transfer and data storage; and the development of technologies for sustainable energy harvesting, storage and conversion—such as fuel cells and solar photocatalysts.

Study lines:
  • Atomic-scale Physics
  • Biophysics and Complex Systems
  • Nanosystems Engineering
  • Optics and Photonics
  • Physics and Nanotechnology for Sustainability and Energy
Students enrolled in the programme are not limited to one of these subject areas, but are able to combine topics.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from Physics and Nanotechnology have found employment primarily in research and development in private or public organizations. Skills within advanced physics are in general applicable in a wide range of job types.

Examples of jobs:
  • R&D Engineer
  • Application Physicist
  • teacher in physics and chemistry
