Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics

Master (2 years) of Science in Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics, 120 ECTS

Institution Technical University of Denmark (DTU)
Campus Lyngby
Duration 2 years
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 7500 EUR

Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics addresses MSc students who, as graduate engineers, want to participate in the development of new and better solutions for products, mechanical components, production equipment and industrial plants. The focus for the solutions may range from microstructures such as parts for hearing aids or mobile telephones to engines, turbines, wind turbines, ships and offshore structures. Students of Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics acquire competences in the application of systematic engineering design methods and advanced mathematical models. They also obtain extensive knowledge of physical principles, the strength of structures, fluid flows and energy conversion. Applied mathematics is used in many practical contexts. Mathematical modelling often involves extensive use of computer simulation.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics frequently find employment in development and research departments of large industrial enterprises, in small enterprises manufacturing high-tech products, or in research institutions.

The typical assignments may be in the field of engineering design and dimensioning of products and production equipment or development of new products. Assignments may also be in the field of optimization of energy conversion or analysis of flows in e.g. turbines, ventilation systems, around wind turbines or around maritime structures.
