These days knowledge workers represent more than half of all employees in advanced economies. Knowledge worker’s major tool and source is knowledge. You can find knowledge workers in various intellectual occupations; physicians, scientists, teachers, pilots, businessman, managers, IT people and musicians can be classified as knowledge workers. But many craftsmen, maintenance men, drivers and engineers are also knowledge workers. Knowledge workers are people with high degrees of expertise, education or experience.

They have knowledge important for their organisation and use it in work. Employers highly regard them for their innovation and creativity, important prerequisites of competitiveness of organisations. Knowledge workers think for living. They may know more than their managers about the job. They like autonomy decide independently and are mentally and emotionally devoted to their professions.Knowledge workers are difficult to manage. Major part of their work happens in their brains and cannot be observed. Managers then have a limited chance to interfere in the process of work and intervene in the case of problems. Even worse, knowledge workers usually do not work in a linear way and results of their work may differ from a short-term and long-term perspective.

Being knowledge worker and managing other knowledge workers is an inevitable destiny and a big challenge of your generation. In the course you will learn who knowledge workers are, why they are important for organisations, how to develop their capabilities and how to manage them. The course is an interactive course and I hope that we will also have some fun and entertainment.
