For all students the discipline of the ‘Dissertation’ can be a daunting prospect. This generic course offers you the opportunity to start thinking and planning for your Dissertation. It will take you through important aspects that you need to consider when planning such a large piece of work.

Who is the course for?
 This is a generic course that focuses on the requirements and elements of a Masters dissertation that are generic for all disciplines.

How will the course be taught?
 The course will be taught over 3 weeks; the first week will be based on e-learning and online teaching where short assignments are prepared, the next two weeks will be face to face interaction and discussions which will take place on campus at Aarhus University. Here you will use your prepared material to develop your ideas and to formulate a strategy for your dissertation.

What will you learn?
 The course will cover a range of elements that are part of the structure of a dissertation. These are for example;
formulating a research question·        
identifying appropriate methodology·        
finding relevant literature·       
presenting arguments academically in written and oral form

About the Degree

This is a summer course that counts 5 or 10 ECTS. 


  • You must be enrolled in a university programme at the time of the AU Summer University
  • If you are applying for admission to AU Summer University courses at the Master level, you must hold a relevant Bachelor's degree (or as a minimum 180 ECTS in your study programme
  • The application deadline is March 15th
