We all are Paris, We all are Neda, We all are Ayotzinapa, We all are Anonymous, We all are Islamic State, We all are Marcos, We all are Hrant and an endless series of global mottos that intend to craft new identities. But what do they really mean? How do they construct identities and how long do they last? Are they global? Do you feel identified with any of them?
A new wave of social movements is reshaping the political scene empowering historically discriminated collectives worldwide. The aim of the course is to define and analyze these social movements from the perspective of globalisation theories as well as alternative theories such as postcolonial and decolonial ones.
Key concepts of the course are: otherness and difference, culture, conflict, the feedback relation between local and global communities, border thinking, coloniality of power, Internet, social actors, identity politics, hegemony, radical democracy, participation, citizenship and good living. During and after the course your actual assumptions on politics and world order will be shaken and you will think of certain realities through new, unfamiliar, eyes.
