Decsription

Let’s learn how art and culture create economic well-being and jobs, serve as „soft power“ in political disputes, and help us with handling challenges and opportunities like e.g. globalization, migration, and digitalization. In the year of ’Rethink - Aarhus 2017’ this focus on arts and cultural management makes perfect sense since it gives us ample opportunity to find examples and partners to talk to in the wonderful European Capital of Culture Aarhus. Students will have an opportunity to learn from experienced practioners and researchers about such topics as community-engagement, participation and involvement of an increasingly diverse population, the growth of the creative sector and still existing global imbalances and the marginalisation of competencies in countries of the global south. At the end of the three weeks course students will put their knowledge into practice and organize a conference on a topic of their choice and invite experts. Excursions as well as international and real-life case studies on arts management will be integral part of this course. The course will provide students with a thorough understanding of the arts and cultural sector and with a sound knowledge of the key topics and basics such as marketing, fundraising, leadership and funding structures that will be helpful when seeking employment not only in the arts but in the entire nonprofit sector.
