China’s colossal increase in cross-border commerce engagement is rapidly changing the rules of the global business playing field. This course focuses on China’s ’go-out strategy’ and how China’s businesses are aggressively expanding their reach to other countries in all parts of the world. Understanding their business strategy, the country’s aims, and the future direction of this wave is essential for international business leaders and company managers to craft a response to this ‘threat or opportunity.’ This course surveys this expansionary business activity and evaluates its impact on global industries and domestic businesses across the globe, and provides insight into how international business can succeed inside the country with a customer base of 1.4 billion consumers.
The aims of this course are to: 1) Strengthen the students’ awareness and understanding of the China wave of amplified interaction with businesses globally, 2) Develop in the students a view of this cross-border activity and understand how it can affect specific industries and business—domestically or globally, 3) Apply academic knowledge of international business towards specific, real-time business developments. Topics include:
  • China’s economic and commercial history,
  • China’s opening up and economic reforms,
  • China’s “Going-Out Strategy”,
  • The New Silk Road,
  • Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank,
  • China and its neighbors,
  • China broaching developed economies (Europe, USA, etc).
  • China into Africa & ASEAN
