Game.Play.Design: Changing worlds / changing views is an interdisciplinary and process-oriented Summer School that revolves around digital games, digital gameplay and digital game design. Through the course the student will develop a theoretical, analytical and methodological appreciation of (curriculum) as well as a practice-oriented, hands-on, conceptualizing approach towards (practicum) digital games as designed object, aesthetic expression, interaction form, user experience and cultural product.  
The intensive format and the fact that a number of courses is taught by multiple lectures (including guest lecturers) also means that you should be open to the possibility that the course might be taught differently than what you are used to (different teaching styles, theories, exercises etc.).

The lecturers are themselves interdisciplinary in their approach having professional basis in media studies, information studies, digital design, educational design, interaction design, aesthetics, experience economy and rhetoric. The aim of the course is to gain insight into, discuss, critically reflect on and productively put to use different humanistic professions in a generative way in order to strengthen, sharpen and nuance one’s own profession in relation to digital games as phenomenon, practice and design. In this way, the distinctive theoretical, analytical, methodological and product-oriented skills and competencies of the individual student is put into play and put to use in the interdisciplinary working group. The course consists of lecture/curriculum weeks (week 1 & 3: July 23- 27 and August 6 - 10) (theory about & analysis of digital games) and project/practicum weeks (week 2 & 4: July 31 – August 5 and August 15 - 19) (development & presentation of conceptual products in relation to digital games). Theory and design comes together through reciprocal ‘learning by doing’ resulting in a design for gameplay.
