Recent demographic changes coupled with technology progress places diversity as a central issue to modern corporations. Not only that: individuals are faced with differences more frequently and groups and work teams are gradually becoming more heterogeneous. It is also clear that innovation, problem solving and decision making quality can benefit from increased diversity. In spite of these facts, the effects of diversity in the workplace are not undisputable and evidence amounts suggesting the challenge of managing differences at all levels – individual, teams and organizations. Moreover, individuals do not respond in the same way to gender, race, age and other differences and the impact of diversity varies accordingly. In this course we will discuss the business case for workplace diversity and how to incorporate the differences in managerial decisions.

The aim is to understand not only diversity issues and effects but also to explore how and when a diverse workforce has the potential to benefit both employees and organizations. The course is not only an opportunity to learn about diversity but also a chance to improve individual skills to deal with an ever-growing diverse context.
