Coptic is an Egyptian language that originated in the first centuries of our era and was a later development of Middle Egyptian (hieroglyphs). The language represents a discipline in its own right and relates to a number of different fields: Bible manuscripts, monastic texts, liturgical literature, apocryphal sources and so on. The course aims at presenting the basics of the language in a reading of the Coptic version of the Gospel of Thomas.
