DescriptionDesign and entrepreneurship in organizations for societal change is an interdisciplinary and process-oriented Summer School that connects five different organizational environments with ‘ReThink’ – the theme of Aarhus2017 European Capital of Culture. The aim is to rethink these organizations in relation to societal change by “building on what currently exists, while also exploring whether things can be done differently. The theme RETHINK provides Aarhus2017 with the opportunity to create a ‘cultural laboratory’ in the whole region where innovation and alternative solutions can develop and take root.” (http://www.aarhus2017.dk/en)
In the course we explore and redesign five different organizational environments in entrepreneurial ways. These five environments represents different core areas of society in Aarhus:
1. Culture/municipality (Dokk1)
2. Public space/shops (The passage between Main train station and Bruuns)
3. Business/startups (StartupLab)
4. Education/students (Nobelparken)
5. Media/communication (TV2 Østjylland)
Students will through the course work proactively with rethinking organizational environments through taking designerly and entrepreneurial approaches. The result will be concrete entrepreneurial redesigns of these organizational environments presented as an event at one of these organizations. This event also counts as the final examination.
The course alternate between weeks of lectures and workshops at the campus (week 1 & 3) and project weeks in groups at the sites (weeks 2 & 4). All projects are carried out in groups of 4-5 students. The result of this will be the production of a work-package for the final event consisting of: 1 academic poster, 1 video-pitch, 1 pecha kucha, 1 prototype/model of the redesign. No technological, design or entrepreneurial competencies are required for this course. Just interest and dedication in relation to the course subject.
Weeks 1 and 3 (25 - 29 July and 8 - 12 August): Lectures and Workshops at the campus. Weeks 2 and 4 (1 - 5 August and 15 - 18 August): Project Weeks
