DescriptionSustainable Forest and Nature Management (SUFONOMA in short) is a two-year MSc programme which provides you with qualifications to deal with the challenges of the sustainable management of forests and nature areas in an integrated landscape context.
During this programme you work with the enormous challenges of balancing the use of natural resources, e.g. for agricultural production, and society’s demand and need for forests, nature and landscapes, e.g. for recreational purposes. You will become an expert in managing the use of natural resources in profitable and sustainable ways and in managing major forest and nature preservation projects.
About the programmeThe programme is part of the EU-funded Erasmus Mundus programme. It is offered by a consortium of five European universities: Bangor University, University of Goettingen, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, University of Padova and University of Copenhagen. You are required to study at two of these universities of your choice and depending on which academic profile you want.
Career OpportunitiesGraduates will gain the required competences for working with sustainable forest and nature management issues: a significant theoretical foundation, practical and international experience and a cross-disciplinary approach. The successful student will be able to apply to high-level PhD programmes or pursue a career in, for example, international and government agencies, district forest and nature offices, consultancy, private companies and NGOs..
AdmissionThe admission requirements are:
- A good first university degree in Forestry, Biology or related fields such as Environmental Science or Geography, alternatively in Economics, Management or Political Science
- High proficiency in English
- Strong personal statement of motivation
- Good recommendations from two references, of which at least one is academic
All applications are assessed by at least two senior faculty members, appointed by or part of the SUFONAMA Commission. Decisions on acceptance or not into the SUFONAMA programme is made by the SUFONAMA Commission.
It is possible to be admitted to the SUFONAMA course, even though you are not awarded a scholarship.

TuitionThere is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students, the size of which depends upon whether you are a citizen from the EU/EEA/Switzerland or not.
