Description

This Master's Programme in English consists of six topic modules and a thesis module. Students choose four of the 15-20 graduate courses that are offered each term.

Each term there will normally be at least one course within each of these fields: English language and linguistics, foreign language acquisition, British Studies, British literature, American Studies, American literature, Postcolonial Studies, Postcolonial literature.

One of the six modules must contain the obligatory assessment of written and spoken proficiency in English. All topic modules - as well as the final thesis - are free topics within the programme's main subject.

Two of the six topic modules are elective modules. This means that they can either fall within the English programme itself or students can take them in other graduate programmes at University of Copenhagen.

Students can apply individually for transfer of external merits to the two elective modules.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from the programme are capable of handling demanding cultural-dissemination assignments, information work, export advice and consultancy, e.g. in public-sector institutions, print and electronic media, creative industries and the business world in general.

Former students also work with translation and publishing. Furthermore, graduates are able to teach advanced English courses, draft teaching materials, and organise and run business courses in language and culture, however the programme does not provide students with the teaching profile aimed for the Danish upper-secondary school. Finally, the Master’s degree qualifies graduates for postgraduate studies, including PhD programmes.
