In all parts of the world there is a growing interest in social entrepreneurship, social enterprises and social innovation. Traditional welfare systems are transforming and new global challenges induce us to 'think out of the box' to solve persistent challenges and problems. Social entrepreneurs create innovative solutions to societal problems, often across sectors and professional disciplines. To do so requires a new set of skills that span knowledge about leadership, organization and management as well as the processes of social innovation in diverse institutional, organizational and cultural contexts.

Career Opportunities

The SEM program will enable graduates to serve as consultants and managers of social innovation and facilitators of entrepreneurship in private and public institutions as well as in social enterprises and NGOs. The program will especially provide students with expertise in relation to social value creation within institutional settings such as sustainability, education, local community, poverty reduction, integration and social service. Typical tasks will be to lead and develop processes of social entrepreneurship as well as to facilitate innovation in and between various sectors of society. In addition to such roles, a certain proportion of our graduates can be expected to establish social enterprises on economic or market terms as the program includes a focus on skills for business planning, social and financial accounting and resource mobilization. SEM graduates will not only be well-placed to move into existing jobs in the labor market, but establish new businesses and thereby new job opportunities.
