DescriptionThe Dance Partnership course at The Danish National School of Performing Arts is a 2-year postgraduate education for professional dancers and choreographers, who wish to combine artistic and pedagogic practice in order to implement and deliver participatory projects and teaching of a high level.
Career opportunitiesThe aim of the education is to give professional dancers artistic, pedagogic and practical tools and skills, which enable them to carry out creative dance projects in schools and other cultural institutions as well as create independent artistic projects where participation is a central component. As with most artistic educations, many graduates work freelance and are employed on a project basis or create their own projects.
About the degreeGraduates from the Dance Partnership course are able to critically reflect on their own practice and to respond to and affect a society and an performing arts field that is constantly evolving. Taking their existing artistic interests as a starting point, the student develops their own distinct practice within the field of participation, teaching and dissemination. Practice based research is underpinned by a practical and theoretical foundation in creative dance, pedagogy and creative methods.
The curriculum consists of classes and workshops taught by educators, artists and researchers from Denmark and abroad, combined with research periods where the student carries out self defined projects, for example during external placements, where the student plan and teach practical dance encounters and performance projects to specifik target groups.
The education is concluded with a substantial practical and written dissertation. Collaboration with students from other specialisations and a focus on entrepreneurship prepares the student to successfully realise their own projects upon finishing the education. The close relationship between dance and music and its relevance as a dance pedagogical tool is also in focus, and some modules are delivered in collaboration with the education Musical Accompaniment for Dance. The primary teaching language is English, but it is possible to hand in written assignments in Danish, Swedish or Norwegian.
