Description

Perception, production and fittings of architectural spaces are in focus throughout this programme. You will have the opportunity to work with landscape, urban design, building and furniture design and master the art of designing and constructing interior and exterior spaces in detail.

For a couple of generations, great Scandinavian architects such as Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Leverentz, Alvar Aalto, and Finn Juhl and Arne Jacobsen all combined an international outlook with a very local sensitivity for the context, materiality, light and colors of landscapes, buildings and furniture. This specific Nordic sensitivity came out of a culture of research and innovation combined with a strong sense of social responsibility. On one hand, an understanding of the many contexts of design, including the end-user's perception of spaces is of great importance. On the other, the professional knowledge of how to work consciously with light and sound, materials and color, proportion and representation must be both trained and critically examined.

Today, a very strong trend in Danish and international contemporary art and design are challenging convention with works which explore our understanding of both space and place. Artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Dorte Mandrup and Stig Lennart Andersson renew our curiosity and sense of delight. Inspired by them, you will study the conceptual space where the reality of construction meets poetic invention.
