Description

The Blangstedgaard campus is situated 5 km off the city centre of Odense - a very lively city with many exchange and international students from all over the world. One of the characteristics of the Danish way of teaching and learning is a friendly and informal atmosphere, which is highly appreciated by the exchange students studying in Denmark.

At this department of UCL, nursing students mix with students from other health programmes such as radiography, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and biomedical laboratory technology. Not only bachelor students, but also many practicing nurses taking continuing education classes flock to this campus and the campus is the home of a very eclectic student environment. In addition to Danish speaking full degree students (full degree programmes are taught only in Danish), UCL also welcomes exchange students from its many international partners from clinical placements or from the theoretical courses taught in English under the Nursing Europe programme.

The facilities are excellent at Blangstedgaard; from libraries, IT facilities and classrooms to a miniature hospital with all the equipment and facilities one would find in a regular hospital, the students will have access to unparallelled learning resources during their studies. The department's building is modern, light and airy, and it provides the ideal framework for the faculty, students and staff.

Modern nursing must be based on the latest medical knowledge and technology and best practices as they unfold right now in the best hospitals. The Department of Nursing, Odense is committed to giving the students the most up-to-date and thorough education they can and to this end the department works closely with the University of Southern Denmark in research and development areas, and at the same time the department also has a strong network in the professional nursing community like with Odense’s University Hospital.

One of the many benefits of the department's strong network in the professional nursing community is the fact that UCL can offer the students outstanding clinical placement opportunities. Whether they are full time students or coming for exchanges during their studies at other schools. All clinical placements include specially trained placement counsellors who follow students from before the clinical placement begins and until the students have completed the placement and reached their educational goals. UCL's clinical placement opportunities were further extended to international exchange students in 2008, when a number of clinical placement counsellors undertook additional training to be prepared to welcome English speaking exchange students. Through the Nursing Europe programme, UCL now offer not only clinical placements but also a growing number of study opportunities for international exchange students. Contact the international coordinator for more information.

The exchange programme offers a great opportunity to meet young people from other countries while studying in an international atmosphere and engaging in group work, discussions and social networking with a focus on democratic citizenship in education and schools.
