Description

The programme in Materials Science and Product Design gives you broad knowledge of materials and processes, and you get expert knowledge of new and innovative materials which i.e. can make textiles more durable and adjust to body temperatures.
Apart from that you get insight into modern processing technology, thus you can be part of optimizing aspects when it comes to techniques, product design, product development process, economics, and production in manufacturing companies. The studies are based on theory as well as projects.

Career Opportunities  

As a Material Technology Engineer you have the competences to enter a wide range of jobs. For instance, you can work with product development, financial management, development and research on new materials, purchasing of new materials and products, and disposals and consultancy on materials and processes.

You job titles could include:
  • Furniture engineer.
  • Textile engineer.
  • Product developer.
  • Controller.
  • Sourcer or material.
  • Process consultant etc.

About the Degree

The programme in Materials Science and Product Design is a professional bachelor's degree. Professional bachelor degrees have a curriculum in large part made up of career and practice oriented training. The programme prepares students for direct employment within professions of industry, education, commerce, health, etc. 

Professional bachelor degrees do not exclude access to subsequent degrees (e.g. a Master). In some cases a bridging programme or supplementary courses might be necessary. 

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a certificate showing, that you have passed Upper Secondary School, The International and the European Baccalaureates, A vocational education within business or other equivalent certificates or professional qualifications.
Furthermore it is required that you have passed:

  • Mathematics corresponding to a Danish A-level (advanced level).
  • Physics corresponding to a Danish B-level (intermediate level).
  • Chemistry corresponding to a Danish C level (pre-intermediate level) or Biotechnology corresponding to a Danish A-level (advanced level).
  • English language proficiency corresponding to a Danish B-level (intermediate level)

In addition, documentation is required verifying that your proficiency in English is at a specified level. VIA University College accepts a range of international tests.

Tuition

There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students from outside the EU, EEA, Switzerland or Turkey. 

The tuition fees are:

  • EUR 7,000 per semester each for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th semesters.
  • For 5th semester (the practical placement period) the tuition fee is EUR 800.

Students within an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.
