VIA University College offers more than 40 higher-education professional programmes, including Bachelor degree programmes within engineering, technology, business, education, social studies, health sciences, media, arts and design. Almost half of the programmes are offered in English in order to prepare the students for the future demands of the labour market. Also offered are vocational upper-secondary programmes in textile and creative studies and so on. 

VIA University College also offers in-service professional training to nurses, engineers and teachers. The study methods are interdisciplinary, and students work actively with private and public companies and institutions worldwide.

Description

If you wish to be a key person in the building industry, the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme is the right choice for you.Bachelors of Architectural Technology and Construction Management are the professionals, who are able to participate in and coordinate the building process at all levels from concept to completion in the broadest sense. This includes new buildings as well as the renovation.

During the studies you are able to specialize in design consultancy, facilities management and construction management. BIM (building information modeling) is an integrated part of the education, since we strongly believe that this is an essential and very important driver, which will have a strong impact on the future development and progression of the building industry.

The programme is taught entirely in English and focuses on problem based learning planned around a semester project situated in different countries and current strategic markets. The difficulty level increases throughout the education.

This programme is also offered as an exchange programme.

If you are intrigued by designing construction, planning and cost control or management of the entire building and construction process, the Constructing Architect Programme provides an ideal professional background.

With the Constructing Architect Degree you will find exciting jobs and excellent career opportunities within consulting or contracting companies - either as a project manager or a construction designer.

You meet the entry requirements if you have an upper secondary school leaving certificate equivalent to the Danish, such as ‘gymnasium', HF, HHX and HTX, including the equivalent of level C in Mathematics and English B.

Description

With an AP degree in Branding and Marketing Management (Fashion and Furniture) you learn to communicate, plan and carry through visual and strategic marketing that aims for a specific target group. As a starting point for this programme, you will analyse a brand’s values as well as trends and tendencies in the global consumer market. You learn how to use various marketing channels, e.g. digital, electronic and print media, and you will get insights as to choosing the right channels for your concept.

Career Opportunities  

The programme gives you the chance to work as an assistant within the fashion and lifestyle sector. You can become part of a creative team which ensures the best marketing of a company’s products.

Most of our AP degree graduates choose to follow a BA top-up programme, which gives you access to a wider range of career prospects.

About the Degree

The Academy Profession programmes combine theory with practice and are suited for employment in business and industry. In some programmes students have the possibility of a top-up degree in which they continue at a bachelor level within a prespecified or related field. The top-up degree is a 90 ECTS supplement programme resulting in a Professional Bachelor Degree.  

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a general upper secondary school diploma, a vocational diploma, or the international equivalent.
You are also required to have obtained mathematics/economics corresponding to a Danish level C - and English corresponding to a Danish level B.

Description

In the Bachelor programme Branding and Marketing Management (top-up) you will learn about the changing nature of the market, and how to give a brand a commercial dimension. You learn to employ different marketing channels – from homepages to outdoor commercials – and how the respective channels help the brand achieve the right position in the market.
You will acquire competences in order to supervise and develop brands in an independent manner. Working out suggested solutions and implementing them in practice, both visually and communicatively, will also be one of your major qualifications. You will be able to establish the right position for the brand and see to it that new concepts fall in line with the values of the brand.
This programme is also offered as an exchange programme.

Career Opportunities  

With a BA top-up featuring Branding and Marketing Management, you have the skills to work with branding and marketing within the fashion and lifestyle sector. You know how to work out solutions and implement them in practice both visually and communicatively. Your job is to find the right position in the market for the brand and see to it that new concepts fall in line with the values of the brand.

About the Degree

The Bachelor top-up degree extends an already acquired Academy Profession programme to a related or prespecified bachelor level. The top-up option is only available to a subset of AP degrees and offered as a 90 ECTS supplement with a resulting degree of Professional Bachelor.

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a relevant Academy Profession degree, Bachelor degree or teachers exam. It is also possible for to apply if you completed the 6th semester at The Danish Design School or from The Kolding School of Design. Read more about the requirements here.

Description

This is an exchange programme.

The Faculty of Technology offers a lot of courses taught in English for students aiming at a job as a Business Manager in the industry or in the public sector.If you are studying in one of the following faculties or similar fields at your home university, you have come to the right place:
  • Commercial Economics, Marketing
  • Industrial Management 
  • Production Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Economics and Management
  • Business Administration
Primarily the study projects should be based on a problem oriented project model within a certain theme and carried out according to the guidelines in “Framework for Projects”. Very often projects are carried out in cooperation with a company, organisation etc.  We recommend very much cooperation with companies and the supervisors will help students to establish contact to relevant companies, but it should be emphasized that VIA cannot guarantee students to be able to find a company interested in collaboration on the project. The more specific problems chosen to be dealt with shall be connected to the student’s course background from her/his home university and/or connected with activities undertaken at VIA. 

Career Opportunities  

The students will further develop their knowledge about developing a project and leverage experiences from previous project work. They will be able to develop a project of high academic as well as practical engineering standards. 

About the Degree

The main purpose of the course is to enable the students to utilize their engineering skills and experience with Project Methodology in a group project executed in accordance with the project-organized and problem-oriented methodology that is used in connection with student projects work at School of Business and Technology, VIA University College. 

Admission  

You have completed a part of your degree course at your home university. This would usually be the first two years of a Bachelor degree. We work in close cooperation with the students' home universities.

Description

The Character Animation (CA) program is divided into different topics, where you in the begining get the basic skills, which allows you to transit to digital tools that give you the opportunity to produce films, games and creative ventures.  

In the first year, the Character Animation program begins with traditional exercises using pencil and paper. Once the basics by hand are grasped, the students transition to digital animation and begin using programs like TVPaint™, Adobe® Flash® and After Effects®.

During the second year, the students take their 2D animation skills into the 3D platform using Maya® and experience animation from another perspective. The students also encounter other aspects of a 3D workflow such as basic modeling, rigging, lighting and rendering.

Third year students from the CA and CGA programs come together to form production teams to create their bachelor projects which may include films, games or other creative ventures.

During the fourth year, the students participate in a three month internship in a production studio during their final semester in order to establish themselves in the professional work environment.

Graduates of the Bachelor Program in Character Animation select from a wide variety of career paths such as: 2D Character Animators, 3D Character Animators, 2D Cleanup Artists, 2D Inbetweeners, Flash Animators, Motion Graphic Artists, Compositors, Concept Designer, Character Designers, Layout Artists, Background Artists, Storyboarders, Illustrators, Comic Book Artists, Art Directors, Modelers and Riggers.

About the Degree

he Character Animation (CA) program focuses primarily on the theory and practice behind making a character move and come to life. Each year focuses on a progressively more intense curriculum that guides students on the path toward mastery of both 2D and 3D character animation and provides experience with other industry techniques.

This campus opened in the summer of 2010. At Campus Viborg you can study 6 different programmes within the fields of health, administration and pedagogy - all taught in Danish.

Description

Civil engineering is an international profession that involves the design, construction, operation and improvement of the built environment. Civil engineers provide the technical expertise and management skills to plan, design, construct and maintain such facilities as buildings, bridges, water supply systems, waste treatment systems, road and rail networks, air and sea ports in a sustainable manner to reduce the impact on the environment.
The Bachelor Programme of Civil Engineering at VIA provides you with skills and knowledge needed to manage structural calculations, drawings, soil mechanics, road design and calculations, etc. The flexibility of the programme and the variety of electives allow you to create the degree that will prepare you for the career you want.
This programme is also offered as an exchange programme.

Career Opportunities  

As a Civil Engineer, you may find jobs in many different areas. Some work with the management of projects, including financial and legal aspects, others in the areas of highway engineering, infrastructure, traffic, soil mechanics and harbour engineering.

About the Degree

The programme in Civil Engineering is a professional bachelor's degree. Professional bachelor degrees have a curriculum in large part made up of career and practice oriented training. The programme prepares students for direct employment within professions of industry, education, commerce, health, etc. 

Professional bachelor degrees do not exclude access to subsequent degrees (e.g. a Master). In some cases a bridging programme or supplementary courses might be necessary
 

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, you must have had at least 12 years of combined primary and secondary school education, with a diploma from an accredited general or vocational upper secondary education school.
You must also be able to document that you meet following requirements:
  • Mathematics at advanced level (corresponding to a Danish a-level).
  • Physics at intermediate level (corresponding to a Danish B-level).
  • Chemistry at basic level (corresponding to a Danish C-level).

In most cases, this means the first two years of a B.Sc. We work in close cooperation with the students' home universities. This collaboration is to ensure the student receives credit at his or her home university for each course successfully completed at VIA University College.

A Danish bachelor’s degree Students who have completed 2 years = 120 ECTS of study at their home university are permitted to attend the exchange transfer programme at Department of Civil Engineering and be awarded a Danish bachelor degree upon completion of internship and 1 year = 60 ECTS of study in VIA University College. The internship must have a duration of at least 20 weeks awarding a full 30 ECTS. The 1 year of study must award 60 ECTS equivalent for a total of 90 ECTS.

Description

The Computer Graphic Arts (CGA) program is divided into different topics, where you in the begining get the basic skills, which allows you to transit to digital tools that give you the opportunity to produce films, games and creative ventures.  

The first year of the CGA program concentrates on the foundations of artistic practice with several modules related to design and concept art and theory. Furthermore, students receive a thorough introduction to Maya® and Adobe® and begin working with most aspects of the Maya pipeline. The students then learn how to integrate 2D and 3D elements into their projects and when either should be used by evaluating the available resources

During the second year, the students build on the strong foundation from their first year by incorporating more collaboration through various projects with the Character Animation program.

Third year students from the CA and CGA programs come together to form production teams to create their bachelor projects which may include films, games or other creative ventures.

During the fourth year, the students participate in a three month internship in a production studio during their final semester in order to establish themselves in the professional work environment.

Career Opportunities  

With a degree in construction technology, you can find work in many types of companies related to the construction industry – typically among architects, contractors, builders and manufacturers of building elements. About the Degree

The Academy Profession programmes combine theory with practice and are suited for employment in business and industry. In some programmes students have the possiblity of a top-up degree in which they continue at a bachelor level within a prespecified or related field. The top-up degree is a 90 ECTS supplement programme resulting in a Professional Bachelor Degree. 

Admission  

You meet the entry requirements if you have an upper secondary school leaving certificate equivalent to the Danish, such as ‘gymnasium', HF, HHX and HTX, including the equivalent of level C in Mathematics and English B.

The programme in Fashion Design centres on women’s wear and offers you a basic understanding of the design profession and the applied theories and methods within the fashion and lifestyle sector.
You learn to take a position on existing brands, and to create a flow in your collection that matches the identity of the brand. Furthermore, you gain basic design skills as well as insight into the entire design process from the first sketches to the time of production. You learn about target groups, trends and tendencies, and how to navigate in the fashion industry.

Career Opportunities  

With an AP degree specialising in Fashion Design you have the chance to work as an assistant within the fashion and lifestyle sector. On the basis of the designer’s premade sketches your job is to assist in developing the designer’s collection. For instance, you compile the right materials for the collection and work out a graphical presentation which is important for the production of the clothing.

Most of our AP degree graduates choose to do a BA top-up which gives you access to a wider range of career prospects.

Get the latest knowledge in transmedia storytelling in fashion, with a focus on fashion film. Learn how to create a project from idea to concept development and end with a finished production.

The course is divided into 3 modules of 10 ECTS each, with graded projects concluding each module.

Global Business Engineering is a professional Bachelor of Engineering programme taught in English and set in a vibrant environment of Danish and international students.

Description

The programme in Global Nutrition and Health consists of a basic year (two semesters) and two and a half years (five semesters) of specialised studies in one of two fields: 

1. Public Health Nutrition and Food Policy
The overall aim of this specialisation is to work with health promotion on community level both in Denmark and abroad. Focus is on nutrition and health but also on food production and on the consequences of it. Inequalities in health and nutrition are also important aspects which are seen between different countries but also within specific countries. Therefore, when it comes to problems with under- and malnutrition it is not only related to the developing countries but to the western countries as well.

2. Lifestyle and Health Education
The overall aim of this specialization is to work holistic with health interventions both for individuals and groups. Focus is to obtain skills in motivational communication, management and guidance hence a lot of the education concerns pedagogy, psychology and sociology in order to understand individuals. The core areas of the education are nutrition, physical activity and general health - to consider all the aspects of health and not just one.

The programme in Global Nutrition and Health is a professional bachelor's degree. Professional bachelor degrees have a curriculum in large part made up of career and practice oriented training. The programme prepares students for direct employment within professions of industry, education, commerce, health, etc. 

Professional bachelor degrees do not exclude access to subsequent degrees (e.g. a Master). In some cases a bridging programme or supplementary courses might be necessary. 

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, it is required that you hold an Upper Secondary School Examination certificate (+ supplementary higher education studies) that makes you eligible for entry to higher education in Denmark.

About the Degree

Graphic Storytelling is for people wishing to learn how to create graphic stories and universes at the highest level. The program teaches you all the areas of working with graphic storytelling: drawing, sequential storytelling, layout, scripting, story boarding for films, cross media and developing original graphic universes.

Inclusive and participatory work with children, youths and adults focusing on creative subjects.

The philosophical approach and training is based on a holistic approach. The social pedagogical approach will be reflected in the teaching and learning methods. This means that the teaching will be based on dialogue and participation.

The teaching methods in Head Heart Hands alternates between creative subjects: drama, music, movement, arts and craft; theoretical subjects: theories and methodologies of pedagogy, sociology and psychology; and practical work: field work and field studies.

The learning activities will be a variation of teaching, instructing, guidance, monitoring and training in the class and in the pedagogical work field and will be organized as individual work or group work. The learning processes will be based mainly on problem orientated project work. The module requires student commitment and student participation in reflections and discussions as well as in written and oral presentations.

Description

As a full semester study programme you can join three of The International Modules. In an international study environment you will be among other students from different countries, mainly from Europe. The teaching methods of the course promote different and varied work and study forms, such as lectures, discussions, student presentations and group activities. Collaboration between teachers and students is based on the students’ individual initiative and independent work.

  • International Physical Education / Sports module

  • Internationalization and Entrepreneurship in the Danish primary and lower-secondary school

Career Opportunities

On completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Develop and implement an international dimension with intercultural perspectives in an educational context
  • Design developmental plans, e. g. planning teaching sequences with point of departure in the international dimension and intercultural perspectives
  • Cultivate intercultural communication skills and research skills with special reference to the international dimension in the Danish school.
  • Understand the teaching profession with reference to the school and education systems in different countries, mainly the EU, including leadership in the classroom focusing on relationship and dialogue.

About the Course

The aims of the course:
  • To develop and to implement an international dimension with intercultural perspectives in the programme

Non-Danish students must apply for admission on the same terms as Danish students. They are eligible for admission if they hold either a Danish qualifying examination or qualifications recognized or assessed as being comparable to the Danish entrance qualifications.

Description

Developing ideas is, in short, what a mechanical engineer does. The mechanical engineer creates ideas, develops and designs new products. The mechanical engineer degree programme is professionally oriented and structured so that, in the course of the programme, you will work with project themes in close cooperation with companies within the fields of industry, automation, energy and environment.

Description

Pattern Design is an area of specialisation on the Bachelor (BA) top-up programme. Being a skilled pattern designer is a matter of practical experience. So the main focus of this programme is to do projects where you get to develop your sense of form, work independently on designing patterns and estimate the proportions of the clothing. You become skilled in decoding the fashion designer’s sketches and determining the optimum manufacturing methods.

This programme is also offered as an exchange programme.

Career Opportunities  

With a BA degree specialising in Pattern Design, you have the chance to work as a pattern designer in the fashion industry. You will often have the responsibility for the fitting of the product and for the communication of this to Danish as well as international business partners.

About the Degree

The top-up degree extends an already acquired Academy Profession programme to a related or prespecified bachelor level. The top-up option is only available to a subset of AP degrees and offered as a 90 ECTS supplement with a resulting degree of Professional Bachelor.

Description

The programme in Pattern Design provides you with a basic understanding of pattern design and the applied theories and methods within the fashion industry. Career Opportunities  

With an AP degree specialising in Pattern Design you have the chance to work as an assistant within the fashion sector. Your job is to assist the pattern designer in developing measurement charts and workshop drawings. This is an important part of the preliminary work, when the collection is put into production. Likewise, the assistant has to check the quality of the samples.

Several AP degree graduates choose to follow a BA top-up programme, which gives you access to a wider range of career prospects. 

About the Degree

The Academy Profession programmes combine theory with practice and are suited for employment in business and industry. In some programmes students have the possibility of a top-up degree in which they continue at a bachelor level within a prespecified or related field. Lectures and literature in Danish

Since all of the lectures and most of the literature is in Danish, a language course will usually be a part of the programme too.

Description

This semester is aimed at people studying to be teachers, educators or students within the field of health and people who are interested in finding new ways of working to improve health and living conditions.

You will, therefore, in the course of the semester be introduced to innovative methods that create the possibility for social entrepreneurship. You will be challenged as regards your convictions as to what is possible and how these challenges should be met. In other words, a completely different way of coping with professional challenges.

An important part in this semester is the two weeks practice that will take place in schools or at other institutions that are relevant to your home studies. Also you will experience a more untraditional practice/ field work for 3 weeks, creating innovative solutions for specific challenges given to you by schools/institutions locally.

Description

If you would like to help solve problems relating to climate change, flooding caused by cloud bursts, clean drinking water supply, protection of groundwater and the development of the energy supply of the future, then the Supply Engineering degree programme is the right choice for you. 

It takes 3,5 years to become a supply engineer, and you can choose between three lines of specialisation:
  • Water
  • Wastewater
  • District heating
As part of the degree programme, the fifth semester has been set aside for a work placement in a private or public sector company within the utility industry. This gives you an opportunity to test the engineering skills you have already acquired. 

Career Opportunities  

As a graduate supply engineer you can work in utility companies, consulting engineering firms, firms of contractors or in the public sector. 

You will have plenty of opportunities to work abroad, where the lack of clean water and wastewater processing is a growing global challenge that requires skilled engineers.

The exchange programme consists of three modules, each of which has its own set of requirements for completion.

1. Teaching English as a foreign language
  • This module deals with communicative competence in English in the primary school and teacher education, including views of English as a subject and a language. Focus is on selected language samples, e.g. a target language form, learner language in the initial phase, learner language in the final phase.
  • The module serves as the theoretical base for the practical application of English teaching in the two other modules described below.
2. Digital Learning Design
  • This module aims to qualify student teachers' theoretical, analytical, creative and practical insight into digital learning design.
  • Students acquire knowledge and skills on how to plan, implement and evaluate learning designs with ICT as an integrated feature. 
  • Requirements for the completion of the module include a portfolio containing a minimum of 6 products. They must be related to class activities as well as an educational intervention project, including oral presentations in class.
3. Educational practice in primary school
  • This module introduces students to the teaching profession in Denmark and involves hands-on teaching at a primary school. That means the module offers an opportunity to gain experience in planning, delivering and evaluating lessons.
  • Completion of the module is based on a 10-page report in English prepared by the students. The report is based on empirical evidence gathered during the placement period and analysis of the evidence with the use of relevant concepts and theories.

    Professional bachelor degrees do not exclude access to subsequent degrees (e.g. a Master). In some cases a bridging programme or supplementary courses might be necessary.

    During the course, we will disseminate international state-of-the-art projects, as well as focus on pre-fabrication in the construction process and how to work with CLT (cross-laminated timber). In addition, the participants will be taught specifically on the topic of sustainability within construction, as well as the value and advantage of working with multi-storey timber constructions.
    Statistics, knowledge of fire safety and circular design (design for separation) will be central subjects in the processing of the different projects.

    The Summer School will be structured around cases featuring multi-storey timber construction design, which will be processed in teams.
    The course will finish with the presentation of a final project from each team.

    This Summer School unfolds the United Nations’ sustainable development goals through student participation in a cross-cultural and cross-educational context. The goals derive from the United Nations’ international agreements on processing towards explicit sustainability in 2030. They are unique in that they call for action from all countries; poor, rich and middle-income alike to promote prosperity, all the while protecting the planet.

    The course will focus on the following global topics, inspired by the United Nations’ sustainable development goals:
    • Health and well-being for people of all ages
    • Reduced inequality within health care, different ethnicities, social classes and gender
    • Sustainability through circularity in production, consumption, cities and communities
    • Strong, democratic and engaging institutions for all

    Description

    Two modules taught in English from February to June every year: 
    • Children and Families in the Aftermath of Disasters - Social Work Responses
    • Conflicts and Social Work
    Both modules are aimed at students of Social Work and related professions, e.g. Nursing, Social Pedagogy, Social Education, Teaching, Law, Human Resource Management, Public Management and Economics.

    The modules are offered to bachelor students and to practitioners with a particular interest in cross-national and cross-disciplinary approaches to disaster responses and to conflict resolution in various contexts.

    Career Opportunities  

    A mix of learning formats are applied, e.g.
    • Introductory lectures supported by reading of text materials and articles
    • Individual studies and group work
    • Guest lecturers and field visits
    • Written assignments

    About the Degree

    With a focus on disasters and other emergencies affecting children and families, the course gives students the opportunity to expand their repertoire and competencies by learning about approaches and methods after a local emergency situation.
    Further, a focus on conflicts in various contexts, levels and cultures, the course gives students the opportunity to expand their repertoire and competencies by studying conflict perspectives, theories and concepts, how to analyse conflict contexts and identify relevant models of conflict resolution.

    All Danish students must complete English at a B-level according to the level system in Danish secondary schools or equivalent proof of English skills.
